LOVE TAREE STORIES

JESS & LUKE

Moved From The City And Have Never Looked Back

Jess and Luke Buddle live on a rural property inland from Taree. And love where they live.

They moved from Sydney two and half years ago after living in Sydney’s inner eastern suburbs. ’Life in Sydney was pretty hectic’ says Jess.

Luke was a lawyer and Jess worked at an investment bank.  ‘Luke decided he didn’t want to be a lawyer anymore so he sold his share of the business’ according to Jess.  They were both in high pressured jobs and decided that they wanted a lifestyle change.

After discovering Taree, ’Luke found this property and as soon as we drove in the driveway I said yes this is it so we knew that it was the right place for us’ remarks Jess.

They were both pleasantly surprised by how easy and fast the drive was from Sydney. Jess points out that ‘It was important for us when we were looking for our home that we could still get back to Sydney, still see family, still see friends and they could visit us easily and quickly’.

Jess and Luke live on a 115 acre breeding property and breed cattle on their new farm.  They have about 35 cows and a bull and a rooster ‘as you can hear’ says Jess.

They have fitted into the community like two peas in a pod and according to Jess ‘we both found that the community in the area is wonderful, the people are wonderful, we feel closer to people here than we did in a high density population and despite feeling like we’ve got the space around us we were looking for, we feel close to all of the amenities that we enjoy’.

And the love that fact that they have some of the most beautiful beaches right near home in the Manning Valley.

Jess’s career has prospered since moving to Taree and she now works at the Mid Coast Council as an executive assistant. ‘I really enjoy working there and its been wonderful to have that opportunity to be able to live and have this lifestyle and still have great career opportunities’ notes Jess.

In addition to her job at the council Jess is also a qualified yoga teacher and now teaches it at the farm. ‘What I love most about being here getting up in the morning and seeing the sunrise, seeing the sunset, there’s no buildings around us and seeing the animals happy’ Jess observes fondly.

They grow some of their own food and vegetables and Jess notes that ‘there’s something really special about growing something from seed and eating it and the flavour that you get.

Jess and Luke feel calm and relaxed since moving to Taree. ‘It’s been wonderful actually to be so unsure on what it was going to be like such a big change for us and for it to feel so right so quickly.

Jess and Luke love where they live. They love Taree. Watch Jess and Luke’s ‘love Taree’ story to find out more.

THE SHED LUXE

Successful Taree business with a focus on retail, design and quality

Callie, Sue and Deb grew up in a beautiful part of the world in a place called Crowdy Head, which is about half an hour north of Taree. The three sisters are extremely close and have built up a business which is known as The Shed Luxe and is operated right here in Taree. The Shed Luxe is a collection of beautiful homewares, gifts, fashion accessories and women’s clothing. ‘We’ve all really had an interest in fashion firstly and then we have kind of moved into the homewares side of things which is becoming a faster passion for all of us really’. This shared passion for retail, design and quality are the values that inspired the sisters when starting The Shed Luxe.

The Shed Luxe have a really great location and when asked what it’s like running a business out of Taree, Callie, Sue and Deb all commented, ‘we’re surrounded by other fantastic businesses here as well and they all support us and we support them back. I think where we have the edge is our local people support us really strongly’.

The Shed Luxe found amazing support from locals and from individuals all across Australia, ‘we sell to Melbourne, we sell to Sydney, we sell to regional, Western Australia. Most of that selling for us is through social media’. Deb explains, that just because The Shed Luxe isn’t situated in the city it doesn’t mean that they can’t reach people in cities as their couriers deliver daily.

Beyond focusing on The Shed Luxe, Deb and her husband Andy were on the 2019 series of The Block which created amazing opportunities for the store. Deb shares that a lot items within their Block house were from The Shed Luxe as well as their collaboration with another Taree local business called HowsThatHouse, ‘my niece Tory and her partner Brad they have a business in Taree called HowsThatHouse and they make beautiful timber vanities and they made 2 for our Block house’.

Taree is situated on Biripi country and Deb’s husband Andy and their children are very proud Biripi people and have a strong connection to country. This is extremely important to The Shed Luxe family and is something that Deb is incredibly proud of.

Taree is a regional hub for design and quality with great access to amazing retailers and lots of creative making and selling beautiful products meaning there is no compromise on anything.

Callie, Sue and Deb love where they live and what they do. And they love Taree!

JADA STANLEY

RUNS A GLOBAL COMPANY FROM TAREE AND LOVES WHERE SHE LIVES

Jada Stanley grew up on a farm just outside Taree and now lives at Wallabi Point, a little coastal town off Taree, with her husband and kids. She owns Nusa Indah Surfboards, an internationally renowned surfboard and surf fashion company run globally by Jada from Taree. ‘I’m based in Wallabi but we sell boards all over the world’ says Jada.

When asked why she chose to run a global company from Wallabi Point in Taree, Jada comments, ‘I think I was looking for a creative outlet while I was at home with the children. I first created one for myself and then friends and family started ordering boards and I would document those boards on social media.’ When she started the business, Jada found amazing support, help and referrals from the local Taree community and felt that everyone wanted to see her to succeed. And succeed she has. Jada has customers all around the world and works collaboratively with Vogue, Lulu DK and other brands from Positano to London, The Bahamas and the USA.

Beyond business, Jada really loves living in a small coastal community. Wallabi Point is safe and the kids can roam free. Jada explains the life that her kids enjoy, saying ‘the kids ride their bikes, they ride their skateboards between houses, they can run to the beach with their surfboards. Living here really affords them the lifestyle we lived as children and I love them having that safety and sense of community.’

Jada loves how safe her children are and that the community actively keeps an eye out for them. The Wallabi Point Facebook group monitors their whereabouts, providing freedom for kids that is not experienced in the city.

Jada thinks that it’s wonderful to be able to live in such a beautiful coastal community whilst not being limited in a business perspective either. Taree was the first place in Australia to have NBN, making it so easy to work there and connect to customers around the world. According to Jada, ‘there’s transport and freight companies that come directly to my door, there’s an airport in Taree so you can jump on a flight and be in Sydney an hour later’.

Taree is perfect for Jada’s global business and her coastal lifestyle as well. Jada Stanley loves her business and loves where she lives.

CARLY BLACK

Grew up in Taree and loves the supportive community

Carly Black and her husband Ben both grew up in Taree and love its supportive community. When they did move away, they couldn’t wait to get back to Taree, particularly when their daughters were about the start school. ‘We wanted somewhere where they could be a part of the community,’ explains Carly.

Carly and Ben have recently built a new home, with plenty of space inside and a big back yard for the girls to play freely outside. Carly adds, ‘building a house like this in the city would have cost us a lot more money. We were able to have a lot more nice things in this house than we would have if we were to build it somewhere else. This is probably twice the size of what we could have had if we had built the house in the city.’

Working in a regional town has not limited Carly and Ben’s career ambitions, in fact they have prospered. Carly works at Ray White Manning Valley and not only does she love the team but she also loves the challenges and the results she achieves.

Ben is a qualified mechanic and owns his own mechanical business that is growing and thriving with strong local support from the Taree community. He is growing his customer base every year.

When discussing traffic, or no traffic to be more precise, Carly explains ‘peak hour doesn’t really happen in Taree. I guess if there is a bit more traffic on the road maybe an extra couple of minutes.’ School drop off is easy as it’s less than a five-minute drive from her home to school every morning. Their eldest daughter goes to school and their younger daughter attends the community day care centre. When asked whether the girls like school and day care, Carly answers ‘the girls both enjoy going. If Amelia ever has a sick day, she hates that she can’t go to school. She’s always bursting to get back.’

Carly and Ben chose to start school in Taree because of the smaller school numbers, greater attention and the feeling of safety in the local community. ‘Everyone knows everyone in the neighbourhood’ says Carly.

After they complete high school, UNE Taree University campus will allow the girls to complete a degree without moving away from home.

And in the spare time, which is a lot more than you get in the city, there’s so much to do to keep the whole family active and entertained. Ben goes out mountain biking a few times a week. He loves it and the tracks are some of the best in Australia. Carly, Ben and the girls love spending time down on the river. The Manning River is perfect for family fishing, water skiing or just a relaxing cruise around in the boat on a Sunday.

Carly and Ben love where they live. Watch Carly and Ben’s ‘Love Taree’ story to find out more.

LOVE TAREE STORIES

DR KRISHAN GUPTA

RESPIRATORY AND SLEEP SPECIALIST AT MANNING HOSPITAL

Dr Gupta and his family moved to Taree for only 12 months. But now, they never want to leave.

Dr Krishan Gupta moved to Taree initially for one year to experience rural life and to practice medicine in a regional area. But now, he never wants to leave. ‘Since we moved to Taree both myself and my family just love this place. The work life balance is great and we just decided to stay in Taree’ says Krishan.

The Gupta family moved to Taree to find a better work/life balance and have found a lot more than they expected.

‘Professionally, the move has been very good for me’ says Dr Gupta. A doctor who specialises in respiratory and sleep medicine, he has found the medical facilities and resources in the to be among the best in the country. Krishan loves the flexibility of working in both the Manning Base Hospital and the Mayo Private Hospital. According to Dr Gupta, ‘both the hospitals have great staff and great support, the patient gets looked after very well. I wouldn’t have asked for anything better’.

And it’s not just work-life that has improved for Dr Gupta, but his family life has really blossomed since moving to Taree. With little or no traffic compared to the city, he has discovered that there is so much else you can do with your time. Krishan explains ‘before we moved to Taree my time spent commuting was particularly onerous. Taree is a walk in the park’.  And what does Krishan do with this extra time? ‘I can take my kids to various activities without time pressure: gym, dancing, tennis and they are never a struggle to get them around. We go around to the park near the river for an early morning walk and we like the beaches as well so there are plenty of things I can do around here I could only think about doing in the city’ he answers.

Dr Gupta and his family has also fallen in love with the Taree community – ‘meeting people around, I think I have fallen in love with the people around here they are so friendly’ he says. And although only planning to stay for one year, his family have jelled very nicely with the community and, according to Krishan, our kids love the school, love their teachers and we haven’t ever thought about leaving this place’.

Dr Krishan Gupta loves his work and loves where he lives.

He loves Taree. And so does his family.
