Our town’s name Taree comes from the Aboriginal word Djarii, meaning Figtree. Djarii is pronounced the same as ‘Taree’ and you’ll see plenty of our big fig trees along the river and throughout our town. Taree is situated on the banks of the Manning River in the heart of the beautiful Manning Valley.
Our lifestyle is the envy of many — you can surf, hike, horse ride, fish, ride, row, swim or paddle board every morning and comfortably make it to work without the traffic or congestion. With a population of over 26,000, Taree is a thriving regional hub where the locals love where they live.
